February 8 – March 28
Opening Reception: Sat. February 8, 2025
Exhibition visitors will encounter sculptures, photography, paintings, performance art, and participatory installations about the past, present, and future of Friendship Park. Each of the three exhibitions communicates a shared message of cross-border friendship (amistad) that is the essence of Friendship Park.
Artivists/ Artivistas statement:
“Within Friendship Park stands the first boundary marker established at the end of the U.S.-Mexico War. This site is “the birthplace of the border” and has
been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
Watch this video of former First Lady Pat Nixon inaugurating Friendship Park in 1971: “We’re such good friends with Mexico, I don’t think we need a border.”
Last year 30-foot walls were installed through Friendship Park, and
access to the U.S. side of the park has been denied since 2020. By bringing the essence of
Friendship Park to art spaces, we can keep binational friendship alive.”
