Panelists and performers at the 2023 Microtonal Symposium

From curator Vallo Riberto: ( left to right): One of America’s great Microtonal theorists and writers, John Chalmers, next to John is New your’s own, (and now residing on this coast) Jonny Reinhard, Composer, theorist, writer, historian and commentator, on all things Microtonal, Kazmier Maslanka is next, theorist, writer and Mathematical Visual Poet, Mr. Maslanka also was a co-curator and moderator, then comes the the newest generation of microtonal composers and practitioners, Daniel Corral from Los Angles. Next to Daniel is the inimitable, Microtonal veteran composer, Joseph Monzo, creator of Tonalsoft software. Vallo is next, curator, then the brilliant, Bill Wesley, composer/musician and mater instrument builder. last, but not in any way least, we have, perhaps, along with John Chalmers, one of America’s great Microtonal figures, historian, composer/musician, and long time practitioner, Johnathan Glasier. Taken altogether we’er looking at the great, American Microtonal revolutionaries ( with the exception of myself) of this lesser known musical genre. It’s been an absolute honor to present this event along with my dear friend and co-curator, KAZ Maslanka, and without whom this event would not have taken place and I’d still be in a Microtonal void! Thank You all!

      About:

The title alludes to the infinity of pitches in microtonal music coined by one of San Diego’s must celebrated microtonal composers, Harry Partch. The Bonita presentation will be a one day event from 11:00am – 4:00pm, with an extended gallery exhibition of hand crafted instruments, pictorials and graphic illustration. The program will include a short introduction by our moderator, followed by a short, musical performance by William Wesley, a renowned composer, and instrument maker. This will be followed by a variety of informative talks by the participating musicians,

Interspersed with actual musical demonstrations. The final portion of the program will include an open-ended Q & A session, followed by a musical ensemble.
